Faculty of Computing & Science

Lecturer in Software Engineering

Teach and supervise across the computing degrees, and own the studio work every undergraduate ends their year on.

The post.

Our computing degrees are built around examined, supervised project work rather than terminal written papers. This post carries the studio side of that: setting briefs, running reviews, and holding the standard the projects are marked against.

You would teach across levels, from first-year programming through final-year systems work, and supervise a cohort of projects each year. Two of our undergraduate placements sit inside businesses in the port district, and resident faculty keep those relationships alive.

What you would do

  • Design and deliver modules across the software engineering strand, from first-year programming to final-year systems.

  • Supervise final-year projects and second-year industrial placements, including the employer relationship behind each placement.

  • Set, mark and moderate assessment, and sit on the board that signs off results.

  • Keep the syllabus current against what the industry is actually hiring for, and rewrite it when it drifts.

  • Contribute to NUC accreditation submissions and to the periodic review of the degree.

What we need from you

  • A doctorate in computer science, software engineering or a closely related field, or a master's with substantial industry practice behind it.

  • Demonstrable teaching experience at undergraduate level, with references who can speak to it.

  • Working fluency in at least two of: systems programming, distributed systems, data engineering, applied machine learning.

  • Experience supervising project or dissertation work through to examination.

  • The right to work in Nigeria, or eligibility to obtain it.

What would also help

  • Publications in venues your peers would recognise, or shipped software at scale.

  • Experience of a professional or NUC accreditation exercise.

  • A network among Lagos technology employers that placements could draw on.

What to attach

  • A CV, including your teaching history and any supervision load you have carried.

  • A covering letter. This is the part we read first.

  • Optional: published work, shipped software, or a course you have designed.
